If you’ve heard of the rumored Google OS, chances are that you will know what I’ll be talking about. YouOS is a revolutionary web operating system! A web what? Yes! A web OS.
It is a very cool project made possible by four devs(Jeff, Joe, Srini, Sam).
According to their site,
YouOS is a web operating system that lets you run diverse applications within a web browser. Small applications like sticky notes or clocks. Large applications like word processing, mp3 players, and instant messaging. Even better, it’s very easy to tweak an existing application or write your own.
So, in essence it is an operating system which you can use through a browser. Finally, I think the process of seperation of software and hardware has begun
Currently, you use a browser, a terminal, a sticky notes app, a file explorer and a few RSS apps. The concept is very good. Imagine if some one develops this with a billion dollar budget?
Here are some pics:. Click to enlarge.
The YouOS Menu. Looks really cool.
The YouOS Installer. A very nice app. I guess Apple should take a cue.
You can change wallpapers too! All this using a browser!
The browser fares better in the Acid2 test than IE!
Good ol’Terminal. Look what I am trying to install using apt-get
The Activity viewer! It lists all processes that are running!
All in all, it is a very solid project considering only four devs are working on it. Expect action from Google soon

Yes! this is cool…
But you still need an OS running on a hardware to access that OS running on a remote hardware :p
Wow ! thats really gr8 ! .. thoughi thot google wub be the ones to launch it
So, OS X now will become a legacy OS. Gotta look at the development of the YouOS project.
I thought that os was there to make the use of hard ware simple and efficient also to help ppl to use their basic need .Here the os need to be accesed by a web browser it is a good idea !.But it can be pratically used only if u have a prmanent net connection without disconnection + a web browser .to access the net u need another os???
